The scene was charged with palpable emotion as a small group of ladies from a local church held hands and prayed for a victim of human trafficking. They didn’t know any specifics, just that someone in trouble was receiving help from the LifeChoices team in the very moment that they were volunteering with us.
Using Google Translate, I quickly typed a message that said, “Remember, I told you that there are good churches that help me to help you? Would you like to thank them yourself?” With a soft smile and nod of affirmation, we quietly slipped into the back of the room as they prayed.
When these praying women opened their eyes, they were greeted by the very woman they were praying for. While a language barrier kept them from exchanging words, our new friend’s crying eyes communicated an understanding that her path to freedom was paved by the caring prayers and compassionate actions of the many friends who support the ministry of LifeChoices.
As we drove to the airport for the next phase of her journey, she spoke these words as translated through our devices:
“I feel that although we don’t speak the same language our hearts have a resonance touch. Everyone is conveying love and helping me…Although I encountered bad things, I gained a lot through this situation…Thank you very much for your meticulous care and letting me feel the warmth of family in a foreign country. You are good people.”
Through five days of gentle gospel-whispering and tangible provisions of food, clothing, lodging, airfare, and gifts, this woman felt God’s love through HIS people. For the next few hours in the back seat of a car, we talked about the God that I love and know to be gracious and kind. She downloaded the Bible in her native language onto her phone and together we explored the good news of John 3:16.
It is your love and financial partnership that makes stories like this possible. I don’t know how our new friend’s story will end, but I can rest in the fact that your support means she now knows about the goodness of our God. Thank you for being “the Church” that brings hope and healing to so many.
